MediReads: WILL IT LEAVE A SCAR?: A Memoir of living with grief

Many of us know the five famous stages of grief and loss: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. But is it really that simple? And does your grief ever truly leave you?
In Will It Leave a Scar? author Kathi Baker examines her unbelievable journey of grief, beginning with the unexpected passing of her first husband to an infection, and continuing eight years later when her second husband began his battle with two separate forms of cancer and a brain infection. Pushed to her limits, Kathi is forced to not only deal with the grief of losing her previous husband, but be a caregiver and a fighter for her next. A true story of pain and loss, but also love and growth, Will It Leave a Scar? proves that hope is found in the darkest of places, and that your scars are what make you stronger.
"Grief does not have to destroy you. Like everything in life, the choice is up to me! To you!"

5 stars - Raw emotions, inspiring story.
In the past few years I lost both of my parents. Each had chronic illnesses, but my father passed away quickly and unexpectedly . I was a caregiver for my mother for many years and saw her struggle and felt my own helplessness while she was in pain and suffering and in her passing I had more of an anticipatory grief attached to it. Grief can be such an internal process and Kathi Bakers book really helped in my own process of continuing to grieve for my parents. Her journey with her husband's illnesses, caregiving, Hospitals, struck a chord in me as well . The roller coaster of hope and fear that she experienced was the same that I experienced. Her book is raw and real. It is the real life experience and process that all of us will be a part of in some way or another in our own life.
5 stars - A Story of Love and Renewal Beyond Grief
This book is a hard to put down poignant and honest portrayal of strong and deep love and a free fall through tremendous worry and grief. This is a compelling and touching read taking the reader down the path of introspection and perception to how they might feel in similar life situations. It is an innoculation of sorts that may help one prepare for their own inevitable life trials and tribulations. The author looks at her emotional limits as they are being tested by her grief and supported by love. In the end this book shows that as people we may be capable of dealing with more than we normally expect of ourselves if we can live through the fear and pain. The result can be renewal if not total emotional healing. This is a very human book, and I highly recommend it.
5 stars - Living with scars
Having lived through the deaths of 4 strong father figures in my life as well as many other loved ones, I know all to well the grip grief can have over you and your life. Will it leave a scar is a raw, real look at the tremendous struggles and pain of dealing with loved ones health issues and death. Kathi's descriptions of events were so accurate and detailed I could feel myself in the room with her. It brought back a lot of memories, like she had mentioned; grief popping back up and slapping you in the face. This book is a true gift to others out there who might have been through similar experiences, who are currently going through them, or who will find themselves going through them in the future. It is a great reminder that you are not alone, you are stronger than you think, and that everyone has their own way of working through it. Thank you Kathi for sharing your story.
